Clarence W. Powell
Clarence W. Powell, 89, of Akron, passed away on June 4, 2007. Born July 22, 1917 to the late Claude and Maude Powell. Clarence was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army. He retired from BF Goodrich after 35 years of service. Clarence was a member of Mogadore Moose Lodge #1082 and Firestone VFW Post 3383 and enjoyed fishing, bowling, and shooting pool. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Arty Ormes, Delores Jacobs, and Willavene Gondor; and brother Elsworth Powell. Survivors include his lifelong companion of 64 years, Fran Powell; sons Don, Carl, and Robert Powell; sisters Alice Yelling and Clarice Meinhart; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday, 5-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. where funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m., Pastor Scott Campbell officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
