Cloyd E. Bachus, Sr.
Cloyd E. Bachus, Sr., died peacefully on September 17, 2013. Cloyd was born in Cottageville, WV on March 19, 1920 to Georgia (Staats) and John S. Bachus. When he was 3 years old, his family left Cottageville and moved to East Liverpool, Ohio. At 15, Cloyd's family moved back to WV, to a farm near Chester. At age 19, he went into the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.). After his service in the C.C.C., Cloyd went to work in the pottery in East Liverpool. Cloyd then met the "love of his life", Betty Walter, in East Liverpool and they were married on January 24, 1942. He was drafted into the Army in April 1942, spent 1 1/2 years in the European Theater, and coming home in 1945 on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary.
Cloyd Bachus and his wife Betty had 3 children: Betty Louise, Cloyd Jr., and Lana Kay. Cloyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Lou in 2001 and his wife, Betty in 2006. His 6 brothers and 4 sisters also are deceased. Cloyd leaves his son, Cloyd Jr. and his wife, Jane; his daughter, Lana and husband, Mark Rich; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He also leaves many good friends, especially Brian Lindesmith, Genevive Miller, and Lorraine Hamilton.
Visitation will be Friday, September 20 from 5-7 followed by a 7:00 p.m. memorial service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Cloyd and his wife, Betty will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m.
