Constantine A. Lorkowski
Constantine Lorkowski departed for his heavenly home on January 26, 2008. Mr. Lorkowski was born in Akron, Ohio and lived there for most of his life. He graduated from Annunciation Grade School and East High School. He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, serving in New Guinea, the Southern Philippines, and Luzon. While in the Army, Mr. Lorkowski was awarded the Victory Medal, the Theatre Ribbon, the Asia Pacific Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Lorkowski retired from RCA Rubber Company in 1985. For fifteen years after his retirement, he worked at Giant Eagle in various capacities. Mr. Lorkowski taught dancing classes at The University of Akron and at Kent State University. He was also a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and was a dedicated delegate of Lodge 1099 of the Polish National Alliance for thirteen years. He always enjoyed the company of others and appreciated the Godly qualities of other people. Mr. Lorkowski was married in 1947 to his wife Leocadia (Banski) Lorkowski, to whom he was married for nearly 54 years. She preceded him in death in 2001. Also preceding Mr. Lorkowski in death were his parents, Roman and Mary Lorkowski; his brothers, Max, Edward and John Lorkowski; sisters-in-law, Sophie, Mary and Betty Lorkowski; and daughter-in-law, Rosemary Lorkowski. He is survived by his two beloved children, daughter, Leocadia (Lee) Lorkowski and son, Kenneth Lorkowski as well as brother, Vincent Lorkowski and sister-in-law, Bessie Lorkowski, his dear friend, Joan Sivinski, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Constantine Lorkowski Memorial Fund. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Annunciation Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305. The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to Rockynol and Copley Health Care for the care given to Mr. Lorkowski over the past few months and the Veterans Administration for their professional services rendered.
