Akron - Craig R. Balnis passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023 at Summa Hospice Center.
Craig was a lifelong resident of Akron and the fourth of eight children. His ambitious streak began in his early youth as a shoeshine boy along E. Market St. where he polished shoes for $.25. Eventually he opened his own appliance store that he operated until health issues forced his retirement.
Craig was an avid fisherman, loved karate, and also loved a good party. His quick wit and dry sense of humor would get you every time. He had an indomitable will to live his life "his way" and he did.
His greatest pride was his three children: Bobbie Jean became a nurse; Beau a chemist; and John an outstanding pianist and artist. Craig always took time to tell others how well his children were doing.
Craig was preceded in death by parents, Erma and Harry King and brother, Mark. He is survived by his three children, Bobbie Jean, Beau and John along with grandchildren, Sarah, Lexi and Jase. He was expecting the arrival of a great-granddaughter soon. He is also survived by siblings, Debi (Glen), John (Cindy), Gail (Bill), Tammy (Dexter), Candi (Bob), and Sandi (Joel); special friends, Kathy and Terry; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Craig's spirit is soaring…his way. We will be celebrating his life with a private ceremony.
