Craig Edward (Goddard) Savage, age 68 of Akron, Ohio, died on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland.
He was born on November 19, 1949 in Akron, the son of the late John W. and Alice (nee Ewing) Goddard.
Craig was a 1967 graduate of Field High School in Akron. He was also an honorably discharged US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. When he enlisted he was a helicopter pilot, doing what he enjoyed doing.
Mr. Savage liked golfing. He was a gun collector, member of the NRA and was a member of the Zeppelin's Rifle Club. Craig loved his Harley. But his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Kylie Beth Savage of Akron, and Leigh Regan Collier of Mogadore; his grandchildren, MacKenzie Savage, Jack Cooper, Bayley Cooper, Zachary Collier, and Whitney Collier; his siblings also survive, Jacqueline (Keith) Bricker, Eleanor (Charles "Chuck") Anderson, Nancy Porter, Helen (Douglas) Barner, and Carol (Steven) Burton, and many nieces and nephews; his former wife and friend, Gayle Savage.
Also surviving are his very close friends, Shane, Shawn and Edwina Gower, and Shawn and Marcia Damon.
Memorial services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 3:00 PM, where family and friends may visit from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Warriors Journey Home, Tallmadge Chapter, c/o First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Drive, Tallmadge, Ohio 44278.
Craig will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
