CSM RSS Raymond L. Duke
CSM RSS Raymond L. Duke, 79, reached his final deployment on March 14, 2012 with his family by his side.
Born in Kingston, West Virginia, he first served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He reached the rank of Command Sargeant Major in the U.S. Army National Guard, retiring in 1993. Ray also retired from Ohio Bell Telephone in 1985.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He cherished his Florida golf trips with his military family.
Ray was a member of the 107th Regimental Commander's Call, the Mogadore VFW Post 8487, and was a 32nd degree Mason.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved son, David Duke and precious grandson, John Eric Duncan.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Mona Lea; daughters, Coni (Paul) Cunningham, Diane Remis, and Denise (Richard) Petron. He also leaves his grandchildren, Bryan, Monaca, Nicole, Holly, and Chad, and his great-grandchildren, Weston, Baylee, Jimmy Jr., and Rae.
He will be missed by his many friends, but mostly the BEST friends in his life, his military brothers Tony LoGuidice and Nate Monastra, and Gary Acord.
Visitation will be Sunday March 18 from 2-5 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. A procession will form at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa. Special thanks to Angela, Heather, Vickie, and Dr. Hudak for their compassionate care. Thanks to Dr. Erwin Maseelall for his years of Dad's loving care and friendship.
