Daniel Kaminski, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. Dan was born on a small, rented dairy farm in Shalersville Township, Ohio on November 6, 1939. At five years old, his family moved to a 100+ acre farm in Streetsboro. While growing up, this is where Dan learned the value of hard work and long hours helping his father milk the cows, planting and harvesting the crops, and attending the chickens. He graduated from Streetsboro Elementary School and Aurora High School (Streetsboro did not have a high school at that time). After graduation, he had several odd jobs and after the sale of the family farm, Dan became interested in the heating and plumbing trade. In 1964, he became a proud member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 219 of Akron, Ohio and a proud member to death. Dan enjoyed gardening and had a large garden and a small orchard. His interest in gardening started him in beekeeping. Dan became an avid beekeeper. At one time he maintained over 200 hives for honey production and pollination services. Dan spent a lifetime giving to the community. He served as Portage County Bee Inspector for many years. He was a founding member of the Portage County Beekeepers Association and was President for over 22 years with the help of his wife Peggy, who was his Secretary and Treasurer for many of those years. He was a lifetime member of the Ohio Beekeepers Association and American Honey Producers Association. Dan was a member of the Brimfield Lions Club and served in many positions including King Lion. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kent, Ohio.
Dan was a family man and always put his family first in all he did. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be remembered by his family for his unwavering care and love for them.
Those that preceded Dan in death were his wife of 49 years, Peggy Kaminski; brother Clarence Kaminski; brother-in-law Norman Duquette; grandson Bradley Lawrence Martin; and his parents Michael and Genevieve Kaminski.
He is survived by his children Barbara King (Michael), Patricia Wandover (George) and David Kaminski; grandsons Steven Kaminski (Ariel), Joseph Martin (Saira), Daniel Martin, Nathan Kaminski and Peter Kaminski; great-grandchildren Aria Kaminski, Wyatt Kaminski and Amira Martin; sister Nancy Duquette; sisters-in-law Margaret Kaminski and Lucy Sims; brothers-in-law Richard Sniderhan and John Sniderhan. He will also be missed by many other family members, nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, February 10th from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., and again from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305.
