Darrell Clifford Townsend, Jr. "Cliff"
Darrell Clifford Townsend Jr., 72, of Akron, passed away November 20, 2011. Cliff was born in Akron on December 7, 1938 to the late Darrell and Cleo Townsend. As a teenager, Cliff enjoyed boxing and was a Golden Gloves Champion for three years. Throughout his career he worked in the steel and rubber industries. He also owned an acoustical tile cleaning business. He retired from the Akron City Water Department. Cliff had a fun loving personality and a great sense of humor. He loved his family, friends, and pets and will be missed by all. In addition to his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his son, Michael Townsend and sisters, Loretta Rogers, Linda Townsend, and Barbara Knize. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 18 years, Nancy; children, Leann Laurich and Lisa Said; stepchildren, Mark (Judith) Feola, Dana Feola, and Tammy (Patrick) Carlyn; brother, Jeff Townsend; brothers-in-law, Tony Rogers and Chuck Knize; grandchildren, Rachel (Adam) Strahan, Michael Laurich, Joshua Feola, Kyle Feola, Rachel Feola, Jennifer Baker, Kaitlyn Carlyn, and Erika Carlyn; great-grandchildren, Kilian Strahan, Earl Baker, and Ethan Baker; and other relatives including special cousin, Jerry (Betty) Townsend. Visitation will be Wednesday November 23 from 5-7 followed by a 7 p.m. memorial service with Pastor Scott Baker officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087.
