David Anthony Pettit
David Anthony Pettit, 67, of Akron, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011, at home. Born in Akron, March 31, 1943, to Walter and Winifred Pettit. He attended Coventry High util 1960 and graduated as an East High Oriental in 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force, Manufacturer's Sales Rep in the grocery industry, and owner of Trinity Limo Service until his retirement in 2010. David was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stephen; sister, Judy; and step-daughter, Laurie Stevenson. David is survived by his wife, Sherry A. Pettit; daughter, Amy (John) Wyse; sisters, Rebecca (Douglas) Calaman of Michigan, and Wendy (Joe) Myers of Cuyahoga Falls; step-daughters, Deb (Jeff) Roberts and Shelley (Brian) Wenzel; nieces and nephews, Douglas, Anthony, Victoria Calaman; Molly and Louie Myers; and grandchildren, Aaron (Angie) Roberts, Aric Roberts, Davis and Rachel Wenzel. Piketon, Ohio, where his father was born and raised, was David's favorite place to visit. He leaves many family members including special cousin, Lois (Melby) Williams. David had many loving friends from Coventry and East High Schools, and The Chapel. Thank you to Dr. Joseph Koenig, and all the staff at Cooper Cancer Center. A special thanks to Nathaniel from Summa Hospice who got the family through the night. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 5, from 5 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will be held Thursday, January 6, at 12 noon with Pastor Eloy Pacheco officiating. Final resting place is the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Chapel, or a charity of one's choice, in David's memory.
