David G. Balint, 68, passed away March 3, 2023 after an extended heart related illness. Dave was born on August 14, 1954 in Akron, OH. He was adopted a few days later by parents Frank and Melinda.
Dave spent his entire life in Akron Ohio except for a few years in Atlanta in the early 2000's. He graduated from St. Matthew grade school and Archbishop Hoban High School. Dave had a 26 year career with The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Of his numerous jobs at Goodyear, his favorite was driving cars and motorcycles on various road surfaces at the Goodyear test track in Akron, and on frozen lakes in upper Michigan in the winter months. After his time at Goodyear, Dave moved to Atlanta to help his brother Barry start an insurance repair and construction business. He eventually moved back to Akron where he worked for Home Depot and started his own auto repair business.
Dave had three passions. Bowling, Golf, and Cars. In his 20's and 30's, Dave was one of the best bowlers in Akron. He accomplished a feat that few other bowlers ever have - a perfect 300 game and an 800 three game series. Dave was equally skilled at golf. While living in Atlanta, he had a small financial interest in Canterbury Golf Club. Dave cherished his 5 or 6 years at Canterbury - working on his golf game and making life-long friends. Dave held the course record with a 66 (5 under par) which stood for several years until Canterbury was sold to Ryland Homes in 2006. Dave also loved buying old cars (he called them "beaters"), repairing, and reselling them. He especially loved time working on cars with his sons Joe and Tony.
Dave was a "character". Always cutting up and making people laugh. He was always there for a friend or family member in need. Dave spent his last fourteen years with the love of his life, Sharon Crace. They were a perfect pair that embraced each others family like it was their own. Sharon was David's rock this past 18 months when Dave had periodic physical challenges, hospital visits and time at physical therapy and rehab. Dave was a fighter and worked hard to get back to normal – thanks in large part to Sharon.
Dave was preceded in death by his father Frank. He is survived by his loving partner Sharon Crace, mother Melinda, brothers Barry (Carol), Jeff (Loretta), sister Sue, sons Tony, Joe (Kristina), Brian, and daughters Sherry and Stephanie (Nate). Dave is also survived by his five grandchildren Cohen, Carmen, Dakota, Joe, and Juliet and by his companion and best friend – his sweet dog Coco.
In lieu of flowers, we would suggest that friends and family make a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of Dave.
Per Dave's wishes cremation has taken place.
