David C. Hollis, 75, passed away on March 26, 2016. He was born in Akron on April 4, 1940 to the late Charles and Idell Hollis.
David proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Akron Police Department after 27 years as a motorcycle patrolman. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved camping trips with his family. David had a sweet tooth and loved all cookies, cakes, pies, and PayDays. His wife's cooking was always his favorite. Over the last several years, David was very grateful for the relationships he developed at the Green YMCA.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Dale; father-in-law, Robert Mencer; and beloved dog, Rooney. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 37 years, Cynthia; sons, Garry (Diane), Barry (Maggi), Bill (Ami), and Denny (Tanya); sisters, Jeanette (Jim) Quinn and Joanne (Ramon) Rodriguez; mother-in-law, Geraldine Mencer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Hollis, Ralph (Sue) Blake, Julie (Rich) Keslar, Teri (Jim) Mackey, Scott (Patti) Blake, and Kelly (Kate) Blake; grandchildren, Ethan, Torrey, Samantha, Jennifer, Owen, Nathan, Chandler, Montana, and Jack; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dogs, Roscoe and Rowdy.
Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2016 from 4-6 followed by a 6:00 p.m. memorial service with Chaplain Bob Denton officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. David will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Green YMCA.
