David Alan Dettling, born August 29, 1944, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2018 in the presence of family after a long and courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). David was a proud Marine, serving 6 years for his country. David was retired from Field Local Schools after 33 years of employment. David liked to keep busy and worked part-time at McDonald's until he was unable to fulfill his duties. He was a big fan of John Wayne and never missed The Lone Ranger.
David leaves behind his spouse of 51 years, Mary Lee; children, David II, Tracy, Michael, and Jimmy; and his devoted cat of 21 years, Greensleeves.
David was the son of the late Dr. Frank and Rose Dettling and was preceded in death by his younger brother, Frankie. He is survived by his siblings, Linda Slaski and James (Marie) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Cooper Cancer Center, Summa Akron City Hospital and Hospice staff. Cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours as those were David's wishes. Donations can be made in David's name to Huntington Bank to help with family expenses.
Dearest David and Dad, We loved you yesterday, love you still, always have and always will.
