David DeWitt Loftin, Sr. (Dede)

David DeWitt Loftin, Sr. (Dede) passed away December 27, 2006 after a long illness. He was born in Akron, Ohio on November 2, 1932 to George R. & Euretha Loftin. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne until August of 1953, after which he was married on November 7 of the same year to Otha E. Matthews. They dedicated their lives to Jehovah God and was baptized in the summer of 1961. He worked for Alside for many years. David was a devoted and loving husband and father and was a friend to all who knew him. Strangers were few. He opened his hands to the tired and weary, put a smile on the faces of the depressed and teary. We will all remember him for his wonderful sense of humor that he kept to the very end. David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene and Donald Loftin; sister, Betty Mae Loftin; infant daughter, Carol Ann. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Betty (Otha); sons, David Jr. (Darlene), Philip, Alan and Terrance; daughters, Corrine (Freddie) Neal, Charlene, Carlene, Joyce, Donna, LaJeanna (Bertrand Jr.) Dennis; sisters-in-law, Margie Loftin of Hilo HI and Erma Tyler; best friend, of many years, Norris Hill, Jr.; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 6 at the West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 896 Vernon Odom Blvd. (Wooster Ave.) beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Darrell Williams speaking. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service begins. Burial will take place at Mt. Peace Cemetery on Monday, January 8. Condolences may be sent to 986 East Ave., Akron, OH 44307.
