David E. Reed

August 29, 1928 — December 27, 2012

David E. Reed, age 84, resident of Akron, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012. He was born on August 29, 1928 in Fallen Timber, PA to David and Violet Reed. Dave served under the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, among other awards, and later served as a member of the U.S.M.C. He was a member of VFW Post 8487 in Mogadore, OH where he also was a member of the color guard.

Dave loved golfing, playing bass guitar, dancing and playing polka music, spending time with his family and friends, especially, his great granddaughter, Samantha. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara J. Reed; brother, Robert Reed. Survived by his children, Deborah Duer of Akron, Bobbi Ivanhoff of Kodiak, AK and Michael (Rhonda) Reed of Akron; beloved grandchildren; sister, Janet Calvin; brother, Jerry Reed; other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Hillside Memorial Park in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
