David Eric Fletcher passed away on April 7th, 2024, at the age of 60, after bravely battling a rare and aggressive cancer for eight months. David faced his illness with courage and grace. He was born in Akron, Ohio on September 16th, 1963 to Carl and Joanne (Anderson) Fletcher.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Fletcher.
David is survived by his former spouse and friend, Tracie (Joseph) Epner; daughters Erica (Anthony) Pirc and Rebecca (Nicholas) Pirc; sisters Teri (David) Bolton and Carla (David) Miller; sister-in-law Laura (Bob) Dornhecker; grandchildren Kennedy, Isla, Adriana, and Marco; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other loving family and friends.
David graduated from Ellet High School in 1982. During his younger years, David was well known for being a tough baseball player, never failing to make the all-star team. He enjoyed fishing with his dad and brother, as well as going on family vacations to the beach. He was also known for running wild with his buddies in the general Ellet vicinity, riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, and driving his 1967 Blue Chevelle.
For over three decades, David dedicated himself to his work at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where his loyalty and work ethic were unmatched. His contributions left a lasting mark on his colleagues and the company alike.
When he wasn't at work, David could often be found pursuing his passions, such as riding his motorcycle, fishing, walking, remodeling his living space, or tinkering in his garage on various automotive projects. He had great taste in movies and loved Belgrade-style fried chicken with an ice cold coke. He also enjoyed a cold beer and long talks about "life in general." He lived by a simple life code of "common sense and hard work." Anyone who ever shared a beer with him was sure to be in stitches from laughing.
Over the past 5 years, however, he engaged in a journey of sobriety. He worked on his relationship with himself and others during this time, as well as spent time reflecting on life. His determination and commitment was a testament to his inner strength and resilience. His loyal companion, Mingo, his beloved German Shepherd, who no doubt met him on the other side, was a constant source of companionship and comfort.
David was known for his boundless generosity and immense heart. He touched the lives of all who knew him with his kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others in need. His selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, leaving an enduring legacy of love, kindness, and forgiveness.
Above all else, David cherished his role as a loving father to his two daughters and was a proud grandfather to his four grandchildren, his little "rugrats." He found lots of joy in their presence and took great delight in watching them grow.
Though David may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. We are comforted in knowing David is in heaven surrounded by loving family and great friends.
A celebration of David's life will be held on April 19th at 5:00PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron, with calling hours from 3:00-5:00PM.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his love and light will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were touched by his presence. As many have heard him say, "turn the lights out, the party's over."
