David Ward Fishel, 56, born April 6, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio, died suddenly on Sunday, December 18, 2011 of heart failure after a period of declining health over recent years. David was a long time client of the Summit County Board, MRDD, and resided at the Evant "Brookshire" home at the time of his death. During his adult lifetime he participated in programs and workshops operated by the Summit County MRDD both in Tallmadge and Bath. He was also an employee of Main Street Gourmet for a number of years, which he particularly enjoyed. Some of his favorite pastimes included: writing letters and cards to friends and relatives, listening to his CD collection (the Beatle's and Elvis) as well as doing his own personal chores. When he was in good health he enjoyed social events sponsored by the MRDD board, outings at camp during the summer and vacations funded by his earnings, including the Poconos, and Disney World, among others. He was a "fan" of the Burger King, Friendly's and especially the Outback Steakhouse where (always a contrarian) he invariably ordered "Shrimp and French Fries". David was preceded in death by his special friend, Linda, who was also a client of the Summit County MRDD, and by his mother, E. Jean (Haas) Fishel, originally of Logan, Ohio. He is survived by his brother, Paul J. (spouse: Janet nee Phillips) Fishel of Cuyahoga Falls, his father, Derry L. Fishel and stepmother, Sandra S. (Binns) Fishel of Tallmadge, as well as numerous friends and relatives throughout the United States. Cremation has taken place; a memorial service will occur at a later date. If remembrances are contemplated, it is requested they be made as donations in the name of David Fishel to Evant, Inc. services (2251 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221) toward the benefit of residents at the Brookshire and Reymann Homes.
