David Wheatman, 79, of Akron, passed away on April 26, 2023. Dave was born in Akron on January 16, 1944 to the late Lew Wheatman and Evelyn (Gowen) Wheatman. He retired as a concrete layer with Local 310 in Cleveland.
Dave was happiest when he was outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many trips to his rural property in southern Ohio, where he designed and built a log cabin. He also used his woodworking skills to build beautiful furniture. For many years, he owned a Harley and took cross country trips with the Harley Dressers Association and NA 40+ Touring Riders. He loved living on the Portage Lakes.
Dave had a big personality and made friends wherever he went. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his half-brothers, Don and Jack Vaughn. He is survived by his sons, David (Shyrllynn) Scanlan and Michael (Kristy) Scanlan; grandchildren, Jordan (Brittany) Scanlan, Ryan (Jenica) Scanlan, Colleen (Nick) Staerker, Joshua Scanlan, Steven Scanlan, Nathan (Vicki) Scanlan, Hannah Scanlan, and Rachel Scanlan; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Jace, Reid, Gemma and one on the way.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Dave will be privately laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park at a later date.
