De'Anthony D. Cunningham "Poppa," "Greg," and "Chicken"
De'Anthony D. Cunningham, 23, of Akron, passed away on October 6, 2018.
De'Anthony was born at City Hospital in Akron, OH on August 22, 1995. He grew up playing peewee football for the Firestone Park Rams, and he also played right field in baseball. He attended East High School, where he was involved in ROTC. Before graduation, De'Anthony enlisted in the US Marine Corps, where he served as a proud Marine. During boot camp, De'Anthony received the Top Physical Fitness and Sharp Shooter awards. In 2016, he was discharged with a rank of private first class.
De'Anthony worked as teacher at a local day care, and was currently working as an associate at Home Depot. He was very social and never knew a stranger. He deeply valued his friends who he considered family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. De'Anthony loved to debate and was always up for a challenge.
He was a deep thinker and would advocate for anyone in need. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, and faithful to Adidas products. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as Uncle Booda-Bear, and Uncle D.
De'Anthony was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Charlie Mae Person, Herman Holmes, French Cunningham, Pearl Cunningham, Eddie Jackson, Ann Jackson; grandfather, Bobby Cunningham; brother, Miles Simmons; Uncle, Keith Person and Donell Person.
Left to cherish De'Anthony's memory are his mother, Renee Cunningham; father, Anthony Cunningham; bonus Mothers, Sheri Slonsky and Tabitha Wilkins; fiancee, Micah Clay; siblings, Annisa, Toni, Anthony Jr., Taylor, DaNée, Tori (Luke), Khir'Rah, Mason, Khareem (Kristina), Savon, Tehranae, and Garnett; grandparents, Khadijah (Mohammad) Cooper, Vernon Person, Zerppora Jackson; Nana, Patricia Smith; great-grandmother, Alberta Holmes; aunts, Lisa, Monique, Leah, Artistine, and Melinda of Cleveland, OH; Bridget, Brenda, and Deanna, of California; uncles, Christopher, Paul, Kwame, Michael, and Lee of California; Ali of Florida; Victor, of Akron; Terry, of Cleveland; nieces, Carli Rae, Satona, Ameeyah, Aiyanna, Nayla, and Safiya; nephews, Aaniyus, Anthony III, Marvin, Naeem "Shiny", Saiid, and Josiah, all of Akron; special aunts, Lavonne and Patricia Person.
Friends and family are welcome to Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron to visit on Saturday from 10am until the time of service at 11am. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
