Denise Katherine Prowell

Denise Katherine Prowell CPA, PhD, passed into eternity on April 25, 2024 at the age of 71. Denise was born on October 22, 1952 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Dennis and Leatha (Tamme) Prowell.

Denise graduated from Norton High School in 1970. She went on to attain undergraduate and graduate degrees from Kent State University and The University of Akron in the fields of philosophy, business administration, and taxation.

Denise founded, and was President of, Preferred Tax & Financial Services, Inc. in Ohio, with offices in Illinois and Colorado. Her passion was in helping small business owners pursue their dreams and succeed in their adventures. For decades, clients brought their tax issues to Denise and were relieved when she helped find solutions for them. Clients came to view her as a trusted friend and part of their family.

Anyone who knew Denise understood that her 4 legged furbabies were truly part of her family. She still mourned the loss of her one very special kitty, Pip.

Denise is survived by her spouse of 46 years, Rev. Lynn C. Gorman. Also surviving are her sister Geneva Frost, nieces Susan Torok, LeeAnn (Stephen) Howell, Kim Smith and nephew Robert Frost, along with numerous other family members, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Denise was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Prowell, brother-in-law Bob Frost and nephews Terry Torok and Ken Smith.

Akron, OH 44305 on Tuesday, May 7th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A funeral ceremony will be held at New Life Episcopal Church, 13118 Church Ave. NW on Wednesday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Barbara Bond officiating. a committal service will follow the funeral ceremony at Holy Cross Cemetery, where Denise will be laid to rest.
