Dennis Keith Gillette, 'Denny', age 70 of Portage Lakes, Ohio passed away peacefully on March 3rd, 2021 after a year battle of illness.
He was born October 29, 1950 to Ivan Gillette and Mary (Van Dron) Simpson. Denny spent his childhood in Peninsula, Ohio and attended Woodridge High School. Some of his best memories are of this time in his life. He also lived in Largo, Florida for 20 years, before returning to Ohio in 2014.
Denny is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Ned, Lee, and James 'Jim' Gillette, and son, Dennis. He is survived by his four daughters Tara (Rich), Tracy (Shawn), DeAnna (Michael), and Dana (Nathan). He also leaves a brother, Thomas 'Tommy' (Claudine) Gillette, sister, Lynn Baum, and many more extended family. Denny had many friends, but cherished his friendships with his childhood best friend Mike 'Mikey' (Jann) O' Flanagan and Pat McMillen, and many friends at Tonix bar.
Denny was a very fun and loving man. Anyone who knew him, loved him. He spent most of his adult life being a body man and painting automobiles and one of his favorite jobs was painting Freightliner trucks. He always had a great big smile on his face and a tool in his hand. Denny loved to fix things and fiddle with projects around the house. He saved everything knowing he would need it someday to fix something else. He definitely lived life to its fullest. Denny was THE ultimate grill master on his Weber grill and won many family cook-offs to prove his skill at grilling. He was an avid sports fan and loved all Cleveland teams and got to witness the Cavs win a championship and the Browns finally make it back to the Playoffs this year. Because he lived in Florida for 20 years he loved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was ecstatic that the Bucs won the Super Bowl this year. Not a day went by that he wasn't watching some type of sporting event or listening to it on the radio in the garage with a Miller Lite in hand.
In the last seven years he came back to live in Ohio with his family. He built a special relationship with DeAnna, Mike, Dana, and Nate. His grandchildren - Hailey, Riley, Brody, Ethan, and Caitlin - called him 'Gramps' and were the light that kept him going.
Denny's service will be private and cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Cleveland Clinic Justin T. Rogers Hospice in his honor.
