Dennis J. Griffith, 68, of Cuyahoga Falls passed away on September 24, 2023 in Summa Akron City Hospital with his family by his side after a several year battle with cancer. He was born October 21, 1954 in Akron, Ohio to the late Robert M. & Marie T. (Ginn) Griffith. Dennis grew up in Firestone Park and attended St. Paul School. He was a 1972 graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School with the greatest group of guys around. He went on to graduate from Kent State University while working at John David Jones and Associates. Dennis worked in the Alumni Office at Archbishop Hoban High School before becoming Chief Deputy Clerk of Courts for Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court and retired from Stow Municipal Court where he served in the same role.
Dennis battled Rheumatoid Arthritis his entire life but lived his life to the fullest and was awarded a Program Leadership Award from the Living Well With Arthritis Planning Committee by the Akron/Canton Branch of the Arthritis Foundation. He also was presented a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Archbishop Hoban High School.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert Griffith and Timothy Griffith. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anne E. (Boso) Griffith; daughter, Sarah Griffith and son, Steven Griffith; sisters, Sue (Bill) Koch, Beth (Dana) Ball, Lisa (Pat) Fahey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 5 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron OH 44305. A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls OH on Friday, October 6 at 11:30 a.m. Private burial will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Deborah Plate and Dr. Katherine Leininger for their wonderful care of Dennis over the years and those they work with at Akron General Medical Center. Also, a huge debt of gratitude goes out to the staff on the Oncology Unit and Palliative Care Unit at Summa Akron City Hospital who took care of Dennis during his final days with the utmost compassion. Special thanks to Dennis' classmate, Dr. Skip Radwany for all his support and guidance in his final days.
