Don Cook
Don Langford Cook, 76, passed away April 5, 2009. Born in Ashland, Ohio, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War (1951 – 1955). After his service, he moved to Akron, Ohio and worked at General Tire for 28 years. A lifelong resident of the Ellet area, he was involved in youth baseball as a coach of several teams. He also owned and operated the Last Quarter Restaurant and Lounge for 26 years. Don was a huge Buckeyes fan. He was an avid golfer who loved spending time with his family and his dog "Bo". Preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Audrey Cook; and brothers, Herbert and Ray Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ava; daughter, June (Steve) Self; sons, Don (Kim) Cook, Steve (Tracy) Cook and Pete (Callie) Cook; grandchildren, Bob, Jason, Tammy, Alina, Justin, Casey, Taylore, Drew, Derek, Alyssa and Jagger: and great-grandchildren, Amber, Cody, Haley and Tyler; sisters, Mary Catlett and Dorothy Betz. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Don's niece, Janice Horvatic, for her untiring help, commitment and love. The family would also like to thank Sue Heater. We love you both. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be conducted immediately at 8 p.m. with Pastor Bill Michaels officiating.
