Donald R. Beard
Donald R. Beard, 81, of Akron, passed away January 1, 2005. He was born on September 15, 1923 in Akron to Ethel and Charles Beard. After service in WWII in the U.S. Army, Don graduated cum laude from Toldeo University with a degree in Pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist in Akron for many years, eventually owning his own store in Greentown. Changing careers, he graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in Education. He taught chemistry at Kenmore H. S. for 17 years. He was a faithful member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church for 43 years, during which he served as both Deacon and Elder. He is preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Robert Beard. He is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Loraine (Hughes); sons, Douglas (Jennifer) of Akron, Jeffrey (Cecily) of Basel, Switzerland, Mark (Beverly) of Atlanta; grandchildren, Dan (Melissa), David, and Jim (Elizabeth) Beard, Julie (Kristofer) Kupper, Lindsay (Michael) Glover, LT j.g. Andrew beard, Jenna, Joni, and Jason Beard; great-grandchildren, Laura and Michael Kupper and Benjamin Glover; sister-in-law, Mildred Carroll; nephews, Bob (Pam) Beard, Tom (Joyce) Carroll; nieces, Cheryl (Dick) Sodergren, Connie (Mike) Farmer, Sue (Joe) Haglock; and "honorary daughter," Paula Kavali. A memorial service will be held at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Ave., Akron 44312, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, with Rev. Brian Nutt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Hill Presbyterian Church.
