Donald A. Butler

January 7, 1943 — June 4, 2024

Donald Arthur Butler, 81, of Norton, Ohio, passed away on June 4th, 2024, at Summa Barberton Hospital. He is finally free of pain and suffering after a 30 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Through everything he endured he never complained and he fought that disease with all of his might, always determined to find a way to keep himself moving and living his life to the very best of his abilities.
Don was born on January 7, 1943, in Barberton, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Genevieve Butler of Norton. He was a 1961 graduate of Norton High School and married Sandra Stoll of Barberton when they were 18 and 21 years old. He worked in real estate, built and ran the Covered Bridge Drive Thru in Clinton and worked several years in car sales, finally retiring
from Fred Martin Motors. He loved swimming, golfing and he had a passion for good food and cooking that had no bounds. He was well known for his delicious meals and the love he put into them. He was a loving, affectionate and devoted husband to Sandra, and shared his passion for cooking and genealogy with his daughter Lisa. Her children will carry in their hearts, countless precious memories with their beloved Papa and Grandma.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sandra Butler (nee Stoll); daughter Lisa (Todd) Ward of Norton; son Gregory (Nicole) of Barberton; grandchildren Andrew Ward, Todd Michael (Hailey) Ward, Alison (Steven) Edwards, Madison and Evan Butler; great-grandchildren Myles, Parker, and Oakley Ward. Included are a host of nieces and nephews from the Butler, Thomas and Thayer families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bernard (Dottie) Butler, sisters Colleen (Milton) Thomas, Mona (Earl) Thayer, and infant son Donald Gregory Butler.
The family would like to thank his neurologists, Dr’s Ben and Ellen Walter and Dr. Kristin Appleby of the Cleveland Clinic for their excellent care for many years, the staff at the Doylestown Health Care Center for the past year and the end of life care at Summa Barberton Hospital by the nursing team on 1 East. We deeply appreciate your excellent service.
As Don was ill for so many years, there have been several people that have helped us many, many times in various ways, your kindness will always be remembered and appreciated.
Newcomer Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements and in respect of the family's wishes, there will be no services held.
