Donald W. Cart, 70, passed away after a lengthy illness surrounded by his children and grandchildren on June 29, 2017. A long-time Akron resident, Don was born on May 9, 1947. He served proudly as a US Army veteran during the Vietnam War. Don worked very hard to provide for his family at Alside, City Machine and Wheel, and Carlisle Corporation. For many years he volunteered his time with the Chapparells Baton and Drum Corp. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and was looking forward to becoming a great-grandfather. The happiest times of his life were spent with his grandchildren attending their sporting events and activities. They were the joy of his life.
Don was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 35 years Vicky, and best friend, Chuck Vincent. He is survived by his children, Chris (Ed) Redman, Lisa Kazlman, Scott (Angee) Cart; grandchildren, Dusten, Devin, Dominic, Jenna, Alexis, Kaela, Landrey; sisters, Betty, Diane, Bonnie, Becky; brother, Raymond; mother, Evelyn Kopp (who he loved and cared for dearly). A special thank you to our aunt, Shari Cullen, for her loving and devoted care throughout his illness, and Cheryl and Chuck Blasdel for their loving support; thank you to the staff at the NSICU unit at Akron General, Select Specialty Care Hospital, and to the staff at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 12pm with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery to follow.
