Donald J. Hillegas, 78, passed away on July 9, 2012.
Don served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Terex and retired from General Motors in 1993. Don was also a barber for over 50 years. He barbered in many shops in the area and especially liked working at Bob's Barber Shop in Rootstown. Don was a member of Nativity of the Lord Catholic Church. He loved his family and friends, was a great sports fan and enjoyed playing poker with his buddies on Friday nights. He especially enjoyed going to any sports event his grandchildren played in.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Bernadette Hillegas. Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Beverly; sons, Mark Hillegas, of West Middlesex, PA, Jeff Hillegas, of Akron, Doug Hillegas, of Rahway, NJ, Glen Hillegas, of Randolph, Rusty (Dana) Seaver, of Fitzgerald, GA; daughters, Rita (Monty) Wright, of Deerfield, Eva Lightel, of West Middlesex, PA, Tamara (Luke) Smith, of Canton; grandchildren, Glen, Jr., Amanda, April, Audrey, Joey, Lexy, Jacob, Lily, Jared, Kaleigh; great-grandchildren, David, Rayna, Mason, and soon to arrive, baby Serena Don; sister, Irene (Lawrence) Blatt, of Tallmadge; brothers, Richard (Pat) Hillegas, of Charlestown, Robert Hillegas, of Newton Falls, Jack Hillegas, of Diamond.
Calling hours will be Sunday, 4-8 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. A funeral mass will be Monday, 10 a.m., at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd., Akron, OH 44312 (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
