Donald Jay Sheets, 80, of Akron, went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2013. He was born on January 22, 1933 to the late Paul and Huldah Sheets. Don grew up in the Smithville area in Wayne County. For 32 years, Don was employed with the Akron Public Schools as both a teacher and elementary guidance counselor.
He was a very patient and loving husband and had a great sense of humor. Don was an active member of Springfield Church of the Brethren where he served as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine. Don leaves his wife of 59 years, Beverly; three children, Michael (Lynda) Sheets, Joel Sheets, Janice (Jeff) Myler; four grandchildren, Melanie Sheets, Megan Sheets, Jenna Myler, and Jacob Myler; brother-in-law, Sherwood Young; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry (Kathy) Stutzman; four nephews.
Family and friends may call on Sunday October 27 from 2-5 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Visitation will be held Monday from 10-11 followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastors Andrew Hamilton and Kris Hawk officiating at Springfield Church of the Brethren, 3500 Albrecht Ave, Akron, OH 44312. Interment at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Springfield Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund.
