Donald Peter King
Don King, 65, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008, losing a battle with cancer.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary, father Peter and brother James. He is survived by his wife Sandra, his daughter Susan Bartlett of Centerburg, OH, her husband Doug, their children Daniel and Samantha; his son Donald of Charleston, SC, wife Diana Lynne and son Justin; his sister Geri Heitzenrater of Akron; his brother Richard, and wife Sandra of Anchorage, AK and family and many friends.
Donald was a life long resident of Akron and was graduated from St. Vincent's High School in 1960. He spent most of his career as a vocational education teacher at East and Ellet High Schools. He was an avid muscle car enthusiast, having rebuilt several 1960's Camaros. He enjoyed fishing with his wife on Lake Erie, Canada, Alaska and surf & deep-sea fishing in Florida. He enjoyed traveling, military history and spending time with family and friends.
Calling hours will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron on Thursday, February 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Mathew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Avenue, Akron on Friday, February 15th at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service at Holy Cross cemetery, 100 E. Waterloo Road, Akron, immediately follows the Mass.
