Donald Richmond Ramsey, 89, of Tallmadge, Ohio, died on February 24, 2022.
He was born on July 24, 1932 in Granville, Tennessee, the son of the late James Rymon and Fannie Bea (nee Agee) Ramsey.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Ardie; his daughter, Carrie; and his grandchildren, Pamela and Benjamin.
He leaves behind his cherished wife, Mary; his daughters, Jennifer Ramsey and Lisa Shaffer; son-in-law, Todd Shaffer; stepchildren, Lori Mancini and David Schmidt; his dear sister, Frances Miller; his nieces, Tracee Daniel and Suzanne Ogle and his nephew, Matt Miller.
Don was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Steven Bushong, Jason Schmidt, Angie Grieshammer, Brandon Schmidt, Maridith Dawn Shaffer, and Colton Schmidt. He found endless joy in his great-grandchildren, Nora, Kinsley, and Coen.
Don served in the US Army during the Korean War and graduated from the University of Akron in 1959. He worked at both Goodyear and Monarch before he established Ramco Industrial Tire. He was a fan of college basketball, golf, and professional soccer. He spent his time reading and learning, leaving Plato's Republic and a collection of Robert Frost's poems next to his chair.
A memorial service for Don will be held March 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, with visitation beginning at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Don by registering to vote and exercising your sacred duty to your country in the next election.
