Donald L. Shaffer age 86, passed away on December 14, 2016.
Preceded in death by his beloved grandson Jacob Ronca.
Born on May 13, 1930 to Carl and Edith Shaffer (nee Wingrove). He was the oldest of four; brothers Jim, Boyd and sister Donna. Don served in the Army from 1948 until 1952. He was employed at the Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills from 1954 until his retirement in 1990. Don was a sports enthusiast, participating in softball, golf and bowling as well as coaching baseball and football.
He met the love of his life, Norma Lee Oxford in 1948 at the Tallmadge Roller Rink. They married in June 1953. Together they were blessed with six children, Teresa Peterson, William (Sonja), Ralph (Laurie), Kathy Ronca (James), Rebecca, Dennis (Chris); twelve grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 1-3 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305 where Celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11 AM. Burial to follow at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Eastwood Church of the Brethren, 581 Darrow Rd., Akron, OH 44305.
