Donald Ray Swartout, 85, of Stow, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021.
Don was born July 16, 1935, in Akron, OH to the late James and Merle Swartout.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Elva Alberta (Platt), son in law, Eric Witt, and great granddaughter, Sara King.
Don was a 1953 graduate of Kent State High School. Afterwards, he was proud to serve in the US Navy Reserve as an Aircraft Electrician from 1953-1961. While activated to Pensacola, FL he played for the US Navy's basketball team. Don worked full time for Ford Motor Co at the Walton Hills Stamping Plant 1955-1987; as a part time policeman on the Munroe Falls PD 1966-1968; the Silver Lake PD 1968-1987; owned and operated KYA Security; and worked for Enterprise Car Rental.
Don was a member of the Masonic Star Lodge 187, lifetime member of the Grotto, past Monarch 1988, Cuyahoga Falls Eagles, and the Stow American Legion Post 175.
Don is survived by four daughters: Cathy Witt of Stow, Cindy (Jimmy) Hreha of Coventry, Cristy (Larry) Buterbaugh of Akron, and Donna (Jim) McDougal of Newport, NC; nine grandchildren: Kelly King, Julie (Dan) Gisewhite, Donny (Amy) Witt; Cody and Sean Hreha; Jessica (Keith) Ferguson, Jay Buterbaugh; Gina (Will) Castro, and Joe (Brittany) Castro; and thirteen great grandchildren: Ashley, Kaylee, Nathaniel, Eric, Joshua, Makenzie, Cayden, Caidence, Lotus, Maverick, Marley, Ezrah, and Leon. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Kathy) Swartout; sisters Janice Breckenridge, Brenda Wiard, Debbie Cogelia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10:00 am - 12:00 pm with a memorial service beginning at 12:00 pm, Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron. Burial will immediately follow at Restland Cemetery, Brimfield.
