Don was born April 19, 1922 in Akron, OH to Wm. Clarence Witchey and Lula Ann Berry. He was a 1939 graduate of Hower Vocational High. Don served three years in the U.S. Navy during WWII and nineteen months during the Korean Conflict with a rating of Machinist Mate first class. One week after leaving the service following WWII he wed his high school sweetheart, Ruby Marie Redd, who was still in the U.S. Navy Waves stationed in Memphis, TN, beginning a fifty-five year marriage.
Don retired from B.F.G Chemical Plant in 1981 with forty years of service. He was a member of the Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, a member and Past Master of Coventry Lodge #665, Scottish Rite Bodies of Valley of Canton, Tadmor Shrine Center and Billow Chapter 483 O.E.S.
Donald was preceded in death by wife, Ruby; daughter, Mildred Ann (Witchey) Zamiska; sisters, Jean Caroline Owens, Ruth Elizabeth Helsel; brothers, John Clarence and William Carol Witchey, and of their spouses; He is survived by his son, Pastor D. Edward (Pam) Witchey; grandchildren, Andrew Alan and Jennifer (Brandon) Dawn Sorensen of Omaha, NE; great-granddaughter, Danielle Rose Sorensen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 3:00pm at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, 1767 Goodyear Blvd., Akron, OH.
