Donn "Mike" Gaynor
Donn "Mike" Gaynor, 49, of Akron, passed away suddenly, Monday. Preceded in death by his mother, Joan, sister Patricia and niece, Cynthia, Mike leaves his father, Donn Gaynor; his wife, Jeannette (Long); daughter Joanne Gaynor; son, Damon Gaynor: stepsons, Shawn (Tammy) Gray, Jamie Gray and Casey (Laura) Gray, grandchildren Dillon; Gabe and Reagan, sisters, Paula Calton and Pamela (Dale) Ruff; as well as many other loving relatives. Born in Indianapolis, Mike also lived in Mansfield, moving to Akron in 1966. He graduated from Firestone High School in 1970, and attended the University of Akron. Mike was the Akron Heavyweight Golden Gloves Champion in 1973 and a dedicated boxing fan all of his life, running his own boxing gym at one time. He loved the Oklahoma Sooners and decorated his home, accordingly. He was a man of dignity, pride and respect. He was a father who embraced and encouraged one to strive for a better life. Mike instilled these values to inspire his kids to do something remarkable with their lives. His family loves him with all their hearts, and will miss him more than one can surmise. He was a trivia master and the first choice for "phone-a-friend" for anyone he knew who aspired to be a contestant on " Who Wants to be a Millionaire". Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Akron Baptist Temple, 2324 Manchester Road.
