I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Dorothy Jane Smith (nee Butler), 83 years old, joined the Lord Jesus in Paradise on Wednesday, January 16, 2008. Dorothy was born in Akron, Ohio to Orin and Effie Butler, the middle child of three children. She had made her home in the Akron area for most of those years. Dorothy was preceded into Glory by her husband, Rev. Ben L. Smith, her parents, sister, Arlene (Charles) Trent and brother, Orin "Bud" Butler. Rejoicing in Dorothy's victory are daughter, Jane Smith of Akron, daughter, Deniece (Bill) Turner of Uniontown, son, Bryan (Priscilla) Smith of the Uniontown area, daughter, Joy (John) Purdon of Wadsworth, granddaughter, Heather (William) Gibson of Hartville, grandson, Heath (Michelle) Smith of Akron, granddaughters, Kelly and Kerry Purdon of Wadsworth, great-grandsons, Daniel Smith and Joshua Gibson, sister-in-law, Edie Butler and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dorothy had been a resident of Essex Healthcare of Tallmadge for the past four years. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and residents of Essex and Crossroads Hospice for their dedicated care. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio. Rev. O.L. Henderson of the East Market Street Church of God will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 18 from 5 - 8 p.m. and Saturday, January 19 from 10 - 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Ecuador Missions in care of East Market Street Church of God, Church of God World Missions, 2084 E.
