Dorothy K. Pitman

Dorothy K. Pitman
Dorothy K. Pitman, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 28, 2009. Dorothy passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was born in Morgantown, WV on July 16, 1922. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Russell; parents, Evelyn and Harold Brown; sister, Dora; and grandparents, Carrie and Harry McDowell. Survived by son, Emery (Linda) Pitman; daughter, Candace (Mark) Manning; 4 granddaughters, Megan, Shannon, Leah, Kylie; 2 grandsons, Michael and Mark, Jr.; 7 great-grandchildren, Alex, Kayla, Gage, Neeley, Jaycee, Ashlyn and Peyton. Dorothy had a host of friends, cousins, nephews and nieces. Helping family and friends were a main priority in Dorothy's life. She found much joy in giving, especially her homemade cookies, cakes, pies and chocolates, but certainly enjoyed being remembered with a card and phone call. Special words from Dorothy in her last few weeks were to treat others like you would like to be treated. Dorothy was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and also an active member of the North Central Ohio Chapter-Ex Prisoners of War, in Wooster, OH, along with her late husband, Russell. In earlier years, Dorothy worked for Montgomery Ward and Killians Latex. The family would like to give special thanks to the 3rd floor staff at Akron City Hospital, particularly Wendy, whose tenderness towards her patients touched Dorothy and the family on numerous occasions. Also, thanks to the patient care coordinators, Michele and Jenifer, who both sought to please both patient and family during the last couple of weeks. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 3, 2-6 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a funeral service will be held Monday, January 4, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Robert Tauscher, Jr. officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or Lakemore United Methodist Church.
