Dorothy Lee Leighton, 86, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024 with family by her side. Lee had battled cancer for many years. Born in Akron, Ohio to John and Dorothy Grinder, she was a lifelong area resident. Lee worked at Duffy's Restaurant and Jack Horner's for many years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, going on Jazz Society outings with her husband, watching Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud and Yellowstone and most importantly, spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Leighton; son, Teddy Leighton; step-mother, Urma Grinder; step-father, Harold Turner; daughter-in-law, Chris Leighton; brother, John Grinder; sister-in-law, Sylvia Grinder; father and mother-in-law Ray and Elizabeth Leighton; brother-in-law Raymond Leighton; and sister-in-law Dot (Gil) Haren. Lee will be sadly missed by her children, Steve Leighton, Laura Tarbet (John Richards), Dale Leighton; grandchildren, Ronny (Martha), Sarah (Patrick), Ryan, Austin, Matthew (Cara), Eric, Scott (Kimee), Phillip (Adrianna), Jennifer, Stacey, Beth; great grandchildren, Landry, Bennett, Lily, Teddy and several others; daughter-in-law, Darlene Reagan; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, March 11, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
