Dorothy P. Steele

Dorothy Pauline Steele, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home on August 7, 2016.
Dorothy was born in North Baltimore, Ohio, on August 30, 1926 to the late Beryl and Ruby Vaughn McAmis.
She married Luther Steele in 1944 and enjoyed 65 years of good marriage.
Dorothy and Luther met during the war while both were working at Goodyear; they married and had 3 children. Luther started working 2 jobs, which lasted for 26 years. Dorothy was a stay at home mom and worked very hard at running a house and family mostly by herself, very successfully.
Dorothy's only hobby was going places, any place, it didn't matter where, she just always wanted to be on the go! Her most notable feature, especially in her younger years, was turning most any situation into a humorous event or comedy routine. Her sense of humor will be well remembered.
One of her favorite things to do, as she got older, was to have Rita take her to One of A Kind Pet Rescue and socialize with the animals, especially the cats.
Dorothy was a very loving mother and wife,; she is survived by her children, Larry Steele, and Sandra (Bill) Bishop; her grandchildren Deborah (Lewis) VanLandingham, Ryan (Beverly) Steele, Lindsay (Jeff) Gilliam, Melissa (Greg) McLain, Mandy (Jim) Riemer, and many great-grandchildren.
Other than her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Steele; her son, John Steele; and her siblings, Virgil C., Jackson B., and Betty J. McAmis.
Dorothy's family wishes to express their thanks to the many wonderful caregivers that assisted their mother and grandmother.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: One Of A Kind Pet Rescue, 1929 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44313 or to one's favorite charity.
Mrs. Steele will be placed next to her husband in Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.
