Dorothy L. Potter "Dot"
Dorothy L. Potter, 83, of Akron, formerly of Massillon, passed away peacefully August 8, 2007 with her daughter at her side. She was born July 6, 1924 in Massillon to the late Donald Traynor and Mabel Traynor-Strine. One of Dot's first jobs was working for the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Co. She raised her family and resided in Canal Fulton for over 40 years. She retired from Austin Ignition Co. after 25 years of service. She married her second husband in the 1980s and returned to her beloved Massillon. In her final years, she lived in Akron with her daughter and spent a few years at CYO adult daycare. Dot proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was an avid sports enthusiast and a diehard Pittsburgh Pirates fan. She also enjoyed attending Cleveland Indians games with friends. Dot was preceded in death by her son, Robert T. Schalmo; first husband, Robert W. Schalmo; second husband, Raymond E. Potter of Portage Lakes; brother, Charles Traynor; and nephew, Michael Traynor. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Janet L. Macken of Akron; grandchildren, Susan (Fred) Van Brunt of Jackson Twp., Julie Macken of Akron, Patrick Macken of Akron, James (Korina) Macken of Akron, and Sara Macken of Akron; eight great -grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; many nieces an nephews; and many friends including her dear friend, Dawn Cather. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Massillon Cemetery, 1827 Erie St. S., Massillon.
