Douglas S. West

Doug West passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his home the morning of January 2, 2019.

Doug had left a note stating that he had an obituary already written out, and that he would like it to be proofread before posting. However, his pre-written obituary was not to be found. We know that this will not be near as great as his most likely was, as we all know that Doug had quite a way with words. This obituary will truly never be able to list all of the great things that Doug was able to accomplish during his life. It won't be able to show the strength of his convictions. It will never be able to truly express how much he meant to those who loved him, even if it was only for a short period of time.

Doug was born in St. Louis, MO on November 11, 1953. His family relocated a few times in his childhood, but settled in Akron, Ohio. Doug played football for, and graduated from, Firestone High School in 1972. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1979 and proudly served his country as a Recon Marine until 1988. "Honor, Perseverance, Spirit and Heart." Doug lived his life following those principles. He will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, his compassion, his intelligence, his undying love of reading, and of course, for his Facebook page. Doug had continued to keep in touch with many of his friends from high school, his mates from the Marine Corps, and with those people who were special in his life after Recon through Facebook.

Doug will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but especially by his loyal dog, Rosey.

Doug will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with Full Military Honors on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 2:30 pm. There will be no service or calling hours at the funeral home.
