Downa Dean Wingard, 91, passed away on May 3, 2018 at Mulberry Gardens Memory Care Assisted Living. She was born in Akron, Ohio on June 30, 1926, and lived in Akron for most of her life. She lived her last 12 years in Tallmadge, Ohio.
Downa worked for 15 years in the accounting department at Goodrich, and attended the University of Akron. She married Doyle Wingard on June 5, 1948 at the Margaret Park United Presbyterian Church. They have been married for 70 years.
Downa attended Covenant United Presbyterian Church for most of her life, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a loving mother to her three children, and a wonderful grandmother to her four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Downa was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Margaret Haggerty; brothers, Carroll and Jack Haggerty; and sister, Forestry Schafer.
Downa is survived by her husband, Doyle Wingard; children, Cheryl Boigegrain, Eugena (Brien) Newsome, and Chip Wingard; brother, Varist Haggerty; grandchildren, Chad (Faryn) Boigegrain, Heather Boigegrain, Brianna (Bryan) Frase, and Samuel Newsome; great-grandchildren, Nialls Cogan, and Sawyer Boigegrain; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are welcome to Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron on Wednesday to visit from 9am to 11am. A funeral service will take place at 11am. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
