Dr. Gary Lee Dodd, 73 of Akron, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 22, 2018 following a brief illness. He was born in Akron, Ohio on June 28, 1945, the son of the late George and Margaret Dodd. Dr. Dodd proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an Optometrist prior to opening his practice in the Ellet area where he served for over 45 years. He had a great sense of humor, was generous and kind, and had a passion for life that was unrivaled. He passed his love of politics onto his daughter Christine, his love of the arts to his daughter Lisa, and the legacy of his Optometric practice and love of golf to his son Andy.
Dr. Dodd is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Betty, who was the great love of his life, and three children, Christine, Lisa (Aaron) and Andy (Michelle). He was affectionately known as "Papa" by his four grandchildren Ryan, Isabella, Alexander and Arnie. He is also the big brother to his two sisters Patty (Larry) Brown and Jan (late husband Hank) Meyer and their families.

Family and friends will be received for visitation on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 4-8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11 am at Tallmadge Lutheran Church, 759 East Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278. One of Gary's great passions was his church, so the family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to Tallmadge Lutheran Church.
