D'Shawn Dwayne Shinholster
November 11, 1970 — August 25, 2023
D'Shawn Dwayne Shinholster, 52, passed away August 25th, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Akron, Ohio to Barbara Ann (Dunbar) Alexander and Joseph Lee Burney Jr.(Devoted Stepfather's, Harry King and Steve Oden).
As a young child, D'Shawn lived in Los Angeles, California but later returned to Akron, Ohio where he resided most of his life. He graduated from Garfield High School and attended N.I.T (National Institute of Technology) College. He worked as a cook and developed a family relationship with his boss and co-workers. He was renowned for having an unbelievably charismatic personality and despite his illness, he continued to have an upbeat attitude. He also loved spending time with his grandmother Agnes. In his leisure time he enjoyed cooking, cutting hair, singing, dancing, and entertaining family and friends. D'Shawn was happily married to Sharon Shinholster who was his partner in life for 27 years.
Proceeded in death by his Grandfather Jelp II, Uncles; Jelp III and Terry, Aunts; Joyce and Alinda. He is survived by his wife and children; Cherrelle Danielle May, Dominique Wilson, Erick Da'rrelle May, D'Andre Marquis (Sheila) Daniels, Tyron Ivory Portis, D'Shannyn Shiara Shinholster, Sariah Sharief (Marcus) Conethan, and D'Shoantae Deanna Shinholster. Grandchildren; Chamya, Macayla, Melannia, MarLiyah, Adriana, Marcel, Carter, Tyron Jr., Saint, and Marshawn. Siblings; DeAnna Maxwell, Shug(King), Durrell(King), Eureka Burney Thomas, Tiffany Strickland, Sonia Burney, Travis Burney, Joseph Burney III, and Jody Manson; A host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends, including special nephew, DaShawn McAlister; special niece, Air Aniyah Cade.
Family and Friends are invited to visit Tuesday, September 5th, 2023, from 11a.m. to 12p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 12p.m. at the funeral home.
