Duane "Duke" Goodrich (1950-2023)
Duane, known by family and friends as Duke, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 22nd 2023.
Duke was born to Dale & Leah Jane Goodrich in Waverly, NY on March 9, 1950. The family moved to Ohio shortly after and eventually settled in North Akron. Duke graduated from North High School in 1969, it was there he would meet his loving wife of 52 years, Loretta. After a brief stint at the University of Akron, he would not only start his career at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber company, but his family that he held so dear. Duke enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, sports (both playing and especially coaching) and most importantly, making people smile. Duke would spend 35 years at Goodyear before retiring in 2005. He then spent the rest of his days enjoying life to its fullest, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his dear wife, sons and his cherished treasures, his 3 beautiful granddaughters.
Duke was preceded in death by his father, Dale; mother, Leah Jane; brother, Dwight; mother and father-in-law, Doil and George Greathouse; sister-in-law, Judy Kura; brother-in-law, Alex Kura; nephew, Randy Greathouse, Sr.; and great-nephew, Randy Greathouse, Jr.
Duke is survived by his loving wife, Loretta; children, Dan (Jill), John (Shelley); grandchildren, Danielle (Josh), Adriana (Caleb) and Madison; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry (Pauline) Greathouse, Shirley (Don) Testa, Eula (Chester) Harlin, Dale (Cheryl) Greathouse, Timothy Greathouse and Carol Goodrich; nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews and so many life long friends that he considered family.
There will be no services held at this time. It was Duke's wishes that in lieu of attending services or sending flowers, that everyone spend some extra time with their loved ones, give them a hug and tell them you love them. Duke had a mantra that he lived by, that he wanted us all to live by, and that he would want us to remember…. "Do not cry because it is over, smile because it happened."
