Duane (Dewey) G. Leigh, Akron, Ohio went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2018. The eldest son of Alfred Senior and Margaret (Lee) Leigh of Tallmadge, Ohio, Dewey served in the Air Force from 1950-1952, graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Akron and obtained a Master of Business Administration from Kent State University. He was an early pioneer in IT mainframe computing and programming, which led to additional roles in auditing and finance. His tenure included many management roles at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where the computer training lab was colloquially titled "Dewey University" or "Dewey U". Because of his passion for education he also worked at the University of Akron and became a founding member of NEOMED (NEOUCOM), and Seton Catholic Schools. Prior to retirement, he served as a school treasurer for the Copley and Brooklyn, Ohio School Districts. Dewey and his family lived most of their family life in Silver Lake, Ohio.
He had a keen sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed gardening, driving his tractor (either while cutting the grass or plowing the neighbors' driveways after heavy snows) and eating great homemade food. He loved watching sports, reading, family time and traveling, especially to see relatives. Most of all, he loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa.
He is survived by his wife and love of 60 years, Irene (Mrlik) Leigh; children Debra Leigh of Stow, Ohio; Teresa and her husband Gardiner Henderson of Houston, Texas; Michael and his wife Bernadette Leigh of Akron, Ohio; David and his wife Melissa Leigh of Nashville, Tennessee, and Kathleen Leigh of Hudson, Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ashley and her husband Matt Edwards, Bryn Stephens, Dean Stephens, and Charlotte Hooker; and great-grandchildren Jack Edwards and Parker Edwards. He is also survived by his two sisters Jeanette Hintz of Akron, Ohio; Vicky of Cleveland TN, and his brother Alfred Leigh, Jr., of New Milford, PA as well as many nephews and nieces. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Alfred Leigh Sr., his brother Vaughn, and sisters Patricia and Colleen.
