Duane R. Thomas, Sr., 71, of Akron, passed away December 15, 2001. He was born July 30, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Adam & Anna Tomaszewski. Duane was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a Union Steward, a member of New Philadelphia Church of God and a member of the Polish American Legion in Port St. Lucie. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was prececed in death by his brothers Larry Thomas and Syl Thomas; sister Mary. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Thomas of Uniontown, Julie (Rick) Tenney of Akron, Lenora (Len) Carpenter of Urichsville; sons Duane R. Thomas, Jr. of Fairborn, Michael (Sally) of Urichsville; sister Lucille Ferrel of Mentor; brother Raymond Thomas of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren Angela (Fred) Romig, Carrie (Scott) Long, Jennifer, Erica, Ryan and Adam; great-grandchildren Anna, Hunter and Shelby. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 - 9 p.m. at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
