Dwight S. Chitty, age 98 of Akron, Ohio, died on October 6, 2022.
He was born in Alcoa, TN on March 1, 1924, the son of the late Howard and Buena (nee Vista) Chitty.
Dwight was honorably discharged in 1945 from the US Army, serving during WWII, he was in the battle of Bastogne in December of 1944.
He retired from Goodyear as an electrician after 30 plus years of service, retiring in the 1980s. Prior to Goodyear, he also worked at Ohio Edison.
Dwight enjoyed reading the newspaper, Reader's Digest and in his early years, he used to love to travel, driving south to see his family.
Survivors include his four grandsons, Aaron (Diana) Kubilus of Mentor, Ohio, Ian Kubilus of Jacksonville, FL, Nathan and Samuel Ippolito both of Atlanta, GA; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Gianna and Aria Kubilus. Dwight was also very close to Becky Metcalf, his caregiver and very dear friend and Marcia Hayslip, his niece.
Other than his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary D. Toy; his two daughters, Carol O'Grizek and Barbara Lee; and several siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44305, where family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Burial will take place at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association in Dwight's memory.
