E. Jay Phelps

E. Jay Phelps, 88, of Mogadore, passed away December 1, 2012. He was born in Akron on January 7, 1924 to the late Daniel P. and Ora (Stodgdill) Phelps.
Jay was a graduate of Springfield High School in 1941. He graduated from the University of Akron in June of 1949 with a BS in Business Administration. He was a former member of Sertoma and Lion's Club. Jay served 3 years during WWII in the US Navy. He served on board the aircraft carrier USS Nehenta Bay CVE 74. He retired from First Merit Bank.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor (Kallenbach), of 61 years; brother, Edwin.
Jay is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy S. and Raymond Labuda; sister, Alma Dean Miller; sister-in-law, Jane Kallenbach; many nieces and nephews and their children.
Private funeral services will be conducted at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
