Earl "Lee" Calaway
Earl "Lee" Calaway passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2005 surrounded by his family. Born in Akron, Ohio in 1924, Lee graduated from North High School. He served in the Army in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Lee retired from the Calaway Insurance Agency in 1980, was a member of North Akron Kiwanis and was active in the community. Lee was a member of Gospel Crusaders Church. Preceded in death by June, his loving wife of 49 years, 5 brothers and 2 sisters, and precious great-granddaughter, Alyssa. Lee is survived by son Dennis (Cheryl) of Tallmadge, daughter Susan of Akron, beloved sister Bertie, grandchildren Steve (Sarah) Calaway, Carrie (Brian) Thomas, Kaitlin and Kristin Calaway, 5 great-grandchildren, special sisters-in-law Kay Ewers, Eunice & Virgil McAmis and brother-in-law Bill & Barb Black, and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Lee had a kind, generous and joyful spirit. He will remain in our thoughts and hearts forever. The family thanks Summa Hospice for their wonderful caregiving. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 - 7 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor John Beers officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park with Mogadore VFW 8487 providing military honors.
