Earl W. Stone, 73, died peacefully on September 28, 2007, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Known as Grandpa by many, he was a soft and gentle person who always gave more than he took. He treasured his moments with all of the children, each of whom he gave a special nickname. Earl was also a faithful servant of the Lord and an active member of Akron Baptist Temple. Earl's family would like to thank all the caregivers at AGMC 5400 Wing, Hospice Care Center, and Charlotte at VNS. Earl is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Hortencia (Mother); his children, George Hopkins, Mike (Lorann) Hopkins, Mary Jackson, Eileen (Scott) Smoot, Margaret (Ray) McElroy, and E. Joe (Kim) Stone; and sister, Clara Gorman. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren, not including spouses. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday at 10-11 a.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., Pastor Mike Prebynski officiating. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
