Earnest W. Guthrie, 78, of Akron, Ohio, passed away Sunday, August 12th after a long illness. Earnest was born June 23, 1923 in Murphy N.C. to Lon and Ethel Guthrie. He was a retired Racing Technican with Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. after 36 years of service. Earnest was a WW II Army Veteran. Earnest is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Thelma; sons Geoff (Lelani) Guthrie, Steven (Kim) Guthrie both of Akron, Ohio; daughters Jennifer Guthrie, Susan (Tim) Farkas both of Akron, Ohio; 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters; brothers Charles (Marie) Guthrie of FL, Jack (Evelyn) Guthrie of FL, Frank Guthrie of NC; sisters Mary Buysse of FL, Maude Pierce of GA. Funeral services will be held at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron OH 44305 on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. with Chaplain Jim Hostetler officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Interment will take place Wednesday at Mount Zion Cemetery, Spencer, WV.
